We are on the eve of the Island House Invitational Triathlon – a 3 day triathlon event featuring 40 of the best triathletes around the world – 20 women and 20 men – from IRONMAN Champions to Olympic Champions. This event will demand both speed and endurance since it is no small feat to race swim/bike/run on 3 consecutive days! Following Brent’s incredible record breaking performance at IRONMAN Brazil in May, Brent was invited to participate in this unique event. As a 2-time Olympian and 2-time IRONMAN Champion, Brent brings an almost perfect blend of fast twitch fibres and IRONMAN endurance to the start line. Here is the race format:
- Day one includes a 750 m time trial swim; then 90 minutes later athletes will race a 20 km non-drafting bike race; then 90 minutes later, athletes race a 5 km running race.
- Day two is a fast Olympic distance triathlon but raced as follows: 750 m swim – 5 km bike – 40 km non drafting bike – 750 m swim – 5 km run
- Then, the top ten men and women will get to race on day three. That race is a sprint non-drafting triathlon consisting of a 750 m swim – 20 km bike – 5 km run.
Brent had a great couple of workouts on Sunday and Monday and feels very ready to do a major “throwback” to his short course racing days. I will keep in touch throughout the weekend.
After Island House, Brent will return to some endurance work as he prepares to hit another sub 8-hour Ironman at IRONMAN Arizona on November 20th!!
Thank you for your support!!
