What a great 3 days of fast racing!
Day 3 was the Eliminator format where there were 3 races and athletes were eliminated after each race. It was a tricky day since it was pouring rain but the athletes decided to race and tried to play safe. On the bike, an athlete went down going into the u-turn and Brent was forced into the barriers as he came around that u-turn in order to avoid the crash. Brent stayed upright but once he got going again, the pack was gone and he was in solo chase mode. He ran really well and felt great. What I did not know was that on day one, Brent slipped on the run and dislocated his thumb – incredible – and so on day three, with the pouring rain, Brent took the turns on the run a bit easier and surged on the straightaways. That said, he still scored 16th out of 24 athletes and as the IRONMAN guy with a dislocated thumb, that is absolutely brilliant!
The best thing is that Brent loved sparring with this new generation of speedy young men and it was a good reminder of his early days as an Olympian. He is excited to do it again! Love that!
History was made this past weekend. Congratulations to the organizers of Super League Triathlon and to Brent for giving us a reason to cheer.
I will share pictures when I get them! Thank you for your support.
