Brent raced in St. George, Utah last Saturday in the IRONMAN 70.3 North American Championships. A great swim and early ride had Brent in 2nd place and then the weather turned nasty. Brent called it a “make-you-a-hard-man kind of day”. There was wind and rain and a definite chill in the air and that was all on top of the very cold swim that started the day. Brent got chilled on the bike and ended up losing time in the second part of the ride. I don’t remember the last time I ever typed those words “Brent lost time on the bike”. The bike has always been Brent’s weapon but when the cold and rain set in, the technical course got more difficult and Brent finished the ride in 10th or 11th.
Thankfully, the uphills on the tough run course helped warm Brent up by around 4km and his legs started to feel good. Brent could then run as hard and finished in 5th. I have never known Brent to ever give less than his best and once again, he was a champion.
The link to this picture pretty much sums up Brent. After the race, Brent joined MoreThanSport in presenting a new bike to this young girl. Well done Brent on racing hard and “giving” hard as well .. you are the complete athlete and person! Here is a link to Brent’s instagram account – https://www.instagram.com/p/BFID3sto0Ib/
